Daisuke Ito (1976-), a Japanese photographer, photo book "Rio, Favela Private Edition". After graduating from university, he studied photography at the design school "IDEP" in Barcelona, and then wandered around Central and South America for two years. Since 2004, he has been living in the favelas (slums) of Rio de Janeiro and working as a photographer. This book was published on the occasion of a joint exhibition with Magnum Photos held at the Tokyo Metropolitan Theatre in 2016, themed on Rio, which was bustling with the Olympics. As a resident, he communicated with them, shared drinks, and without intruding on their sacred spaces, he recorded their true selves in rough, monochrome grains. From the favela days, such as children running barefoot, samba teams, gangsters with guns in their pants, and the night view of the city, the displayed Latin heat, the decay of the slums, and life and death, one can feel the vitality of human beings. Limited edition of 300 copies.
