Gourd Maracas Gourd Maracas - Price is for a pair. Maracas (sometimes called rhumba shakers) are simple percussion instruments (idiophones), usually played in pairs, consisting of a dried gourd shell (cuia - kOO-ya) filledwith seeds or dried beans. Often one maraca is pitched high and the other low. The instrument is of prehistoric American origin. The word maraca is thought to have come from the Tupi language of Brazil, where it is pronounced: ma-ra-KAH These authentic maracas were handmade in the Bolivia. Maracas are traditionally an instrument of the shamans. Design and size vary due to natural differences. These are not toys - not suitable for children We sell a wide variety of other hand percussion, drums and musical instruments from around the world. Our items are fairly traded and difficult-to-find items. We source every item personally in the country.
