This game set includes all necessary components. For the second time in the 1980s, an NHL team secured its third Stanley Cup in six years, with Chicago's dynasty being established without winning its division in the closest, most dynamic NHL season. The playoff season was equally intense, with both conference finals going to seven games and the Stanley Cup Finals starting with five one-goal games. Neither the previous year's Stanley Cup winner (Los Angeles) nor the Presidents' Cup winner (Boston) made the playoffs. It took 98 points to qualify in the East (Boston had 96) and 97 in the West (LA had 95), with the 16 playoff teams separated by only 16 points, the narrowest spread ever. Five teams with at least 40 wins were excluded from the playoffs, and only four teams failed to get points in at least half their regular-season games. Thirty-four exceptional goalies maintained save percentages of .910 or better, led by Montreal's Carey Price (.933) and 15 others at .920 or better. Pittsburgh's Marc-Andre Fleury had 10 shutouts, while Price and Washington's Braden Holtby had nine each. The NHL's scoring stars shone bright, with Washington's Alex Ovechkin leading with 53 goals, 25 on the power play. Tampa Bay's Steven Stamkos had 43, and Rick Nash scored 42 for the Presidents' Trophy-winning Rangers, with 12 others scoring at least 31 goals. Dallas' Jamie Benn won the scoring title with a three-point game on the final day, finishing one point ahead of the Islanders' John Tavares and three ahead of Pittsburgh's Sidney Crosby. Washington's Nicklas Backstrom led the NHL with 60 assists, one more than Philadelphia's Jakub Voracek. Powered by official averages and stats with exclusive Strat-O ratings, and enhanced by hundreds of hours of unique Strat-O research and statistical analysis, this game features 18 cards per team and 207 additional players available.
