Guns Of History Civil War Rucker Ambulance 1:16 Scale HISTORY The carnage of the Civil War made transporting the wounded from the battlefields a matter of life and death. The ambulance wagon designed by Brigadier General D. H. Rucker and built at the Government Repair shops at Washington proved to be the most valuable innovation of the latter half of the war. It was able to carry patients in both seated or prone positions using a clever interior design of hinged litters and folding platforms. The body rested on platform springs and included a horizontal draught spring to reduce jostling and sudden lurching. Although somewhat heavier than other designs at 1,120 pounds, the added weight improved stability. THE KIT This kit is historically accurate and perfectly scaled. It includes cleanly cast Britannia metal components and a laser-cut ply and basswood platform & chassis. The kit features spoked wooden wheels with metal rims and axles, and realistic Red Cross decals. A canvas top is provided. The clearly written illustrated instructions were developed by Ken Goldman.
