Vibrant showstoppers: American artist Freddy Reitz's, now based in Germany, works are striking freedom statements cloaked in dazzling colors. She reimagines the US flag as a kaleidoscope, echoing the 'melting pot' idea. A collage backdrop of newspaper and postcard snippets lends the stars and stripes a fresh twist. Reitz dubs her art 'correspondent art,' aiming to foster a dialogue between artwork and viewer. She layers collages and colors until she achieves the perfect balance of audacity and subversion. The Texan artist, who's long resided in Berlin, gained recognition with her Berlin Series, exhibited at the Dresdner Bank during the Brandenburg Gate's 2002 reopening. Post-2002, she continued this series, exploring East-West fusion through large, red diptychs united by small Brandenburg Gates.
